Winged Phallus Pendant – Roman Fascinum as a Necklace An unusual piece of jewellery with quite a bit of history: this necklace features a winged phallus pendant, the design of which is based on a historical model from Roman antiquity. The original comes from a private auction and is dated to the 1st century AD. The Fascinum – a Roman good-luck charm What may seem somewhat curious to us today had a completely different meaning for the people of ancient Rome. **Depictions of the phallus were symbols of protection and good fortune** and were worn, amongst other things, as amulets. Such depictions are often referred to by the term ‘fascinum’. They were intended, in particular, to protect against the so-called ‘evil eye’ and harmful influences. The phallus symbolised not only sexuality, but also fertility, vitality and protection. Particularly interesting are the winged variants, in which the phallus almost becomes a small being in its own right. Depictions of this kind have been handed down from the Roman world in various forms. Even after the end of antiquity, phallic amulets by no means disappeared completely. Various forms are still known from the Middle Ages, and comparable protective symbols can also be found in cultures outside Europe. For Romans, re-enactors and lovers of unusual jewellery The necklace is ideal as an accessory to a Roman outfit, for re-enactment and living history, or simply for anyone who enjoys historical jewellery with a slightly more unusual history. And let’s be honest: that little winged Roman is sure to get a conversation started in no time. 😉 Product details * Motif: winged phallus / fascinum * Historical model: Roman antiquity * Date of the model: 1st century AD * Size of the pendant: approx. 2.5 × 2.5 × 1.5 cm (0.98 × 0.98 × 0.59") * Made from jewellery bronze * With a black, adjustable leather strap * Based on a historical model * Suitable for Roman re-enactment, living history or as historically inspired jewellery A small Roman lucky charm with wings – and a fine example of how the people of antiquity were by no means squeamish when it came to their protective symbols.Winged Phallus Pendant – Roman Fascinum as a Necklace – Ancient Good Luck Charm for the Brave – A Whimsical Good Luck Charm with a History
